Decca Records lanza Bernard Herrmann: The Film Scores on Phase 4
A principios de los años 60, la casa discográfica Decca Records lanzó Phase 4 Stereo, un nuevo sistema de mezcla, para tratar de acceder al público popular y no sólo al melómano. La idea no era tanto obtener un sonido realista, como se había hecho hasta entonces, sino sorprender al oyente con los diversos efectos estereofónicos que podían lograrse (desplazamiento entre canales, reverberaciones o preponderancia de ciertos instrumentos solistas). La apuesta salió bien y el éxito hizo que llegaran a publicarse unos 300 LP dentro de la serie.
Entre 1968 y 1975, Bernard Herrmann grabó 7 discos de música de cine para el sello, con la colaboración de las orquestas filarmónicas de Londres y nacional, realizando tanto arreglos de sus propias obras como selecciones de las de otros autores. Son estas las grabaciones que Decca reedita ahora, remasterizadas a partir de las fuentes analógicas originales, con motivo del 110 aniversario del nacimiento del compositor.
